MODOC, Ind. (AP): Leaders with Union Schools in Randolph County say they're looking to consolidate with a neighboring district because of declining enrollment and revenues.

School Board President Todd Holaday said during a public meeting Monday night that the district in southern Randolph County was running out of money. The Muncie Star Press reports the district's elementary and junior-senior high schools in the town of Modoc have the state's fourth-smallest district enrollment.

Holaday says the district's state funding is dropping by $200,000 and that more spending cuts wouldn't be appropriate.

The district has about 340 students this year. That's down more than 25 percent from eight years ago.

High school senior Shayla Parrish couldn't hold back tears during the meeting and said the district still offers many great things.
