Animal Groups Protest Goat Raffle

MUNCIE, Ind. (WOWO): Some Muncie animal rights activists are up in arms over what they say it happening with “Ernie the Goat.” They‘re upset over Rural King‘s promotion.

The retailer is raffling off the goat to raise money for the 4-H. The goat is being held inside a pen in the store where customers can buy chances to win Ernie.

Dana Salkoski of the Animal Rescue Fund says they complained to the store manager and they offered to buy the goat, but were turned down.

She says they‘re concerned about the welfare of a live animal. New Castle resident Bob Rhea says he doesn‘t believe in raffling off animals without first looking into where they may end up.

The ARF says Ernie has been in the store for about two weeks. A raffle winner is expected to be announced by month‘s end.
Rural King‘s corporate office declined comment.
