Public Hearings Scheduled for Rail Improvements

GARY, Ind. (AP) – Public hearings have been scheduled on an environmental impact review of proposed passenger rail improvements aimed at speeding traffic through northwestern Indiana's congested railroad corridors as well as in Illinois and Michigan.

The public hearing in Indiana is scheduled Oct. 30 in the Genesis Convention Center in Gary. The first hearing is scheduled at the Dearborn Intermodal Passenger Rail Station in Michigan on Oct. 28. The hearing in Illinois is at Chicago Union Station on Oct. 29.

The hearings are being held by the Federal Railroad Administration along with the transportation departments in the three states.

The review covers the proposed project's purpose and need, identifies reasonable route alternatives and analyzes the potential environmental impacts.
