Service Set for Saturday for 1 of 7 Women Killed

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) – The family of one of seven women whose bodies have been found in and near Gary will hold a memorial service for her next Saturday.

WBBM-TV reports the service for Afrikka Hardy will be held at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in East Chicago at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The 19-year-old Gary woman was found dead from strangulation in a Hammond motel on October 17th. Forty-three-year-old Darren Vann of Gary has been charged with murder in Hardy's death and that of 35-year-old Anith Jones of Merrillville. Jones' body and those of five other women were found after Hardy's was discovered.

Vann is scheduled to appear in Lake Superior Court on Wednesday to face charges in the Hardy and Jones cases.
