Day care druggings case sparks call for change

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Lawmakers and children's advocates are calling for a crackdown on illegal day cares after an Indianapolis provider who'd been cited repeatedly for violations pleaded guilty to drugging children in her care.

Stephanie Gribble pleaded guilty earlier this month to six felony counts of neglect of a dependent. Four of the children she admitted drugging required hospitalization.

The Indianapolis Star reports Gribble had been cited for violating state law at least 13 times over eight years before her Feb. 14 arrest. Records show she routinely watched more than twice as many children as allowed and ignored a judge's order to stop operating an illegal day care.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says he will recommend a review of issues involving day cares in hopes of preventing similar incidents.
