Cook Named Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Director

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Marion County Superior Court Judge David Cook has been named the next director of the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the agency that regulates alcohol sales in Indiana.

Gov. Mike Pence announced the appointment Wednesday, calling Cook a “widely respected and reputable lawyer.''  He replaces Alex Huskey, who announced in July he was stepping down to become president of the Ivy Tech Community College campus in Marion.

Cook was appointed a judge last February by the Indiana Supreme Court to take the place of Judge Kimberly Brown, who had been suspended. Cook previously served as Marion County's chief public defender and worked in the Marion County prosecutor's office.

He is scheduled to take over at the agency on Jan. 5.
