Police Chase Ends with Man in Lake at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A police chase in northern Indiana ended when authorities apprehended the man in a lake on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

The South Bend Tribune reports police began pursuing a sport utility vehicle in Mishawaka, which is just to the east of South Bend, and the suspect parked at the Hesburgh Library on the Notre Dame campus and fled on foot.

He tried to escape by swimming in St. Mary's Lake on campus. Police used a boat to capture the man shortly after noon Monday.

Police didn't immediately say why they were pursuing the man. Not many students are on campus because finals finished on Friday.
