INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indiana lawmakers set to reconvene next week aren't showing any signs they'll embrace a long-running push started by former Gov. Mitch Daniels to change the way Indiana's local government is structured.

Republican state Sen. Ed Charbonneau of Valparaiso says he hasn't heard any discussion among lawmakers who reconvene Jan. 6 of pursuing the recommendations of a bipartisan commission that called for sweeping changes in local governments' structure and duties.

Charbonneau say commission's 2007 report with 27 suggested government reforms is full of good ideas.

But he says those recommendations wouldn't be easy to pass, in part because many lawmakers got their starts in local government posts that the report proposed to be eliminated.

House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath says he agrees with that assessment.
