Indiana House Education Chairman Seeks OK for Lobbying

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The leader of the Indiana House Education Committee has formed a lobbying company to represent clients in the education field.

The Indianapolis Star reports Republican Rep. Robert Behning formed Berkshire Education Strategies last June.

Behning tells the Star he is looking to represent student testing company Questar in Oklahoma. He says he only intends to represent clients out of state and has submitted a draft contract with Questar to the House Ethics Committee for its review.

Questar is being paid $6.4 million this year to create and run the tests that Indiana high school students must pass in order to graduate.

Republican House leaders last week introduced a bill under which lawmakers would face more financial disclosure requirements.
