INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Gov. Mike Pence says U.S. Rep. John Myers will be missed.

 Myers, who represented western Indiana's 7th District for three decades in Congress, died Tuesday at his home in Covington.

Pence says Myers was “a friend, patriot, and leader who made a real difference in the lives of Hoosiers and in the history'' of Indiana. He says Myers leaves an unmatched legacy of public service.

Pence is directing flags at state facilities in Fountain County to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, when Myers' funeral will be held. He encourages businesses and residents to also lower their flags. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

Myers, a Republican, served in U.S. House from 1967 to 1997.
