Saturday Fire Causes $2M in Damage to Evansville Marina

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A weekend fire that destroyed four boats moored at an Evansville marina led to the arrest of its owner after she allegedly tried to push past firefighters to reach the scene.

Police said Inland Marina Inc.'s owner and her husband were arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and interfering with firefighter early Saturday after they allegedly scuffled with firefighters on a pedestrian bridge leading to the marina.

Fire investigator Richard Howard tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1DUYJ1T ) the fire caused about $2 million in damage. He says the fire was reported by three people who were preparing a house boat for sale and apparently began when a kerosene heater was knocked over.

The fire spread quickly, engulfing nearby boats moored at the Ohio River marina.
