Bankrupt Charlestown Hospital Closes

CHARLESTOWN, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana hospital that filed for bankruptcy in 2012 has closed.

The News and Tribune reports a bid was accepted for St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown after it went up for auction earlier this year, but the deal collapsed Monday before new ownership could take over.

Charlestown Mayor Bob Hall said he understood the ownership transfer was moving forward, but a hearing Tuesday in federal bankruptcy court determined the 39-year-old hospital would close.

Hall says it's “a sad day for the hospital and its employees'' but the city will continue looking for new ownership and restoring medical services to the community about 15 miles northeast of Louisville, Kentucky.
