LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) _ Alcoa Inc. has opened its expanded jet engine parts facility in northern Indiana.
New York-based Alcoa announced Thursday it has opened its $100 million, 320,000-square-foot expansion in LaPorte. The company said in a news release the plant will allow it to make single-piece structural parts _ components that encase the rotating parts of an engine _ that are nearly 60 percent larger than those already made in LaPorte.
The new facility will supply structural components for engines under a 10-year, $1.1 billion contract with Pratt & Whitney announced last year.
The facility also is working with other major aerospace engine manufacturers and their partners to supply engine parts.
The facility has added 155 new jobs and is expected to create a total of 329 jobs by 2019.
