Naval Center in Southern Indiana Hiring for 350 Jobs

CRANE, Ind. (AP) _ The Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in southern Indiana has announced it's hiring 350 civilians.

The Bloomington Herald-Times reports the center is part of Naval Sea Systems Command, with a focus on special missions, electronic warfare and advancing military technology. The center says the new hires were approved because workload demand is on the rise.

Center spokesman Brian Bailey says employment at the center has been around 3,000 people for the past decade. Job numbers peaked near 9,000 in the 1940s, and 7,000 people worked there in 1993.

Bailey says the center has filled 40 percent of the new jobs, with roughly 200 positions available in many professions.

The center is located southwest of Bloomington.
