Police Identify 4-year-old Boy who Drowned in Indiana Pond

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Police have identified a 4-year-old boy who they say drowned in a pond near the border of Monroe and Lawrence counties.

Police say Nathan Sutherland's mother told them her son chased the family dog when it ran from the house Tuesday evening. She searched for the boy for about 15 minutes before calling authorities.

Captain Ryan Davis tells The (Bloomington) Herald Times (http://bit.ly/1DgbfUQ ) the investigation found the boy's death was accidental.

Authorities say a Bloomington police dog tracked the boy to the pond. A deputy searched the more than 3-foot-deep water where he found the boy. He pulled the boy from the water and started CPR.

The boy was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The pond is about 150 yards from the family's home.
