Authorities: 16-Year-Old Girl Fatally Shot In Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say a 16-year-old girl has been shot to death near her Hammond home in northwest Indiana.

The Lake County coroner's office says Lauren Calvillo was shot Monday and was taken to a Hammond hospital. She was pronounced dead around 8 p.m.

The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/1GLZokh ) reports the girl's death was the second homicide on the same block in Hammond within 24 hours. Police say 23-year-old Robert Vilella died after being shot at the scene of a minor traffic collision late Sunday.

The newspaper says further information about Calvillo's death was not immediately available.
