Purdue Sees Record-Breaking Year for Donations, Funding

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Purdue University is set to announce record-breaking levels of annual giving and research funding.

University officials say donors gave $343.4 million in fiscal year 2015, breaking 2003's record of $311 million. They say researchers at the school received $401 million in outside funding, the most since they've received since pulling in $396 million in 2011.

The (Lafayette) Journal and Courier reports that Purdue researchers have been competing for a dwindling amount of funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The university also vies for venture funding to support dozens of startup businesses founded by students and staff members. This year, a record 40 startups brought in $25 million in venture funding from outside of Indiana to West Lafayette.

Purdue ranked 16th globally among universities issued U.S. patents last year.
