GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) _ A Mennonite college in northern Indiana says it now will hire people in same-sex relationships and expanding benefits to include employees in same-sex marriages.
The Goshen College Board of Directors announced Monday it has updated its non-discrimination policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity under the list of protections.
The Elkhart Truth reported the college could previously hire individuals attracted to people of the same sex, but those employees were expected to remain celibate.
The board adopted the policy after consulting with the Mennonite Education Agency Board of Directors, which serves as an intermediary between Mennonite schools and the Mennonite Church USA.
President James Brenneman said the college remains rooted in the Anabaptist tradition.
