Northwest Indiana Man Gets 30 Years In Death Of Boy

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _ A northwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the death of his fiancee's 2-year-old son.

The (Munster) Times reports 28-year-old Felix Duron of Portage Township was sentenced Monday on a felony count of neglect of a dependent. Online court records say he pleaded guilty in Porter County court in June to a charge in the boy's death.

Authorities say Duron at first told police he found Bentley Mihal face down by a trampoline at their home, and later said the boy tripped down a step and hit his head on the floor and a shelf. Police say Duron eventually admitted to shaking the boy after waking up to him crying one morning in July 2014.

According to police, the boy later died from his injuries.
