Ohio Reports 5.1 Percent Unemployment Rate for March

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The state says Ohio's unemployment rate held steady at 5.1 percent in March, unchanged from the previous three months. 

Friday's report from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services shows Ohio had 295,000 unemployed workers in March, up 5,000 from a revised 290,000 unemployed workers in February. 

This year's March unemployment rate is down from the same month last year, when it was 6 percent. The number of unemployed workers has decreased by 50,000 over the past 12 months. 

Ohio saw job gains in March in industries including education and health services, financial activities and information. The sectors with the biggest job losses were construction and the leisure and hospitality industry. 

Ohio's March jobless rate was below the national rate of 5.5 percent, which was also unchanged from February.
