INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A motorist suspected in a series of hit-and-runs that injured six people in downtown Indianapolis faces preliminary charges including strangulation and battery. 

The Indianapolis Star reports that the man identified as Michael Morris is accused of stabbing his wife on the city's east city and stealing her car on Wednesday morning. He allegedly then drove to downtown Indianapolis and struck the six people at five intersections. His wife is reported to be in stable condition.

Indianapolis police took Morris into custody later that morning. He also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury. Five pedestrians and a motorcyclist were injured. 

It was immediately unclear if Morris had an attorney. 

Officer Chris Wilburn says the hit-and-runs were a “rush hour, mini reign of terror.”
