MODOC, Ind. (AP) _ A school board for an eastern Indiana school district that is one of the state's smallest has voted to keep the one-building district open next year and plans to try to recruit students from China.
The Star Press reports Union School Corp. Superintendent Allan Hayne will travel to an educational forum this month in China to try to bring more students to the district in southern Randolph County, 20 miles southwest of Muncie. The district already has a foreign exchange program, but school board president Christa Ellis says these students would pay tuition, as much as $30,000 a year.
Union has been losing students rapidly, ending last year with just 315 in the district. As of Sept. 18, the corporation had 251 students.
