EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has denied a former Evansville police officer's bid for a federal review of his murder and arson convictions.
U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson ruled Tuesday that Patrick Bradford failed to demonstrate his claims for a writ of habeas corpus. Such a writ asks for a review of state court rulings. The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1kN7m8w ) Bradford argued several constitutional violations entitled him to the review.
Bradford is serving an 80-year sentence for the 1992 stabbing death of Tamara Sue Lohr, a 24-year-old Vanderburgh County corrections officer with whom he was having an extramarital affair, and later setting her home on fire. He was convicted in 1993, and the Indiana Supreme Court upheld the convictions three years later.
