Students May Face Discipline After Fight at Football Game

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Officials say four students could face disciplinary action from the Indiana High School Athletic Association after an apparent fight at a football game.

WSBT-TV reports that referees suspended the season opener for South Bend Washington and Michigan City high schools last Friday at halftime after IHSAA officials said it wouldn't be safe to continue.

Both schools have submitted reports to the association and could learn of possible punishments at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday. Two students from each school are mentioned in the referee's report.

Stan Wruble is on the South Bend School Board. He says he hopes it'll be a learning experience for students. Michigan City High School Principal Wendel McCollum also hopes it's a teachable moment.

Punishments range from suspension to probation or fines.
