Chief Deputy Clerk And City Clerk Nominee Davis Resigns

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Democratic nominee for Fort Wayne City Clerk has resigned from that very office Thursday.

Mayor Tom Henry announced in a statement that Chief Deputy Clerk Angie Davis and other members of the City Clerk's office have resigned. Henry says his office was informed of “inexcusable activities” by employees of the City Clerk's office.

There is no word yet on what this means for Davis' campaign to succeed Sandy Kennedy in Tuesday's election. Thursday, in a press conference, Allen County Republican Chairman Steve Shine called for Davis to step down and vow not to accept the City Clerk position if she wins election.

A Democratic caucus to replace Kennedy that was scheduled for November 8th has been cancelled due to Henry appointing former city councilman Don Schmidt in a “temporary capacity”, effective immediately.
