Denial of Fort Wayne bus ad ruled unjustifiable

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A federal appeals court has overturned a lower court ruling that found Fort Wayne’s bus service was within its rights to bar a local group opposed to abortion from displaying an advertisement on city buses.

The Journal Gazette reports Wednesday’s ruling by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago found that Citilink’s refusal to allow Fort Wayne Women’s Health Link to place ads on its buses is unjustifiable and a restriction of free speech.

Court documents say Citilink officials rejected the proposed ads on two separate occasions because attorneys for the bus service believed the group’s website dealt with controversial issues.

The appeals court’s ruling says although Health Link opposes abortion, that fact is not revealed in the ads.
