FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A slight delay for Fort Wayne’s riverfront development project.

The Fort Wayne City Council was slated to vote on a $1.71-million contract to design the first phase of the project last night, but the News-Sentinel reports they voted to delay that vote in order to find a way to attract private donors to help cover the cost of the $20-million initiative.

Mayor Tom Henry has said money is also expected to come from the city’s Legacy Fund and the state’s Regional Cities fund, in addition to private donations. The funding questions came up after Henry revealed that the project would cost significantly more than expected, to allow for development on both sides of St. Mary’s River in downtown Fort Wayne.

The delay pushes the approval timeline back at least a week.
