LAGRANGE, Ind. (WOWO): The Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne is investigating an officer-involved shooting that stemmed from a vehicle pursuit that started in Middlebury on Tuesday afternoon.

Police first tried to pull over a van driven by 23-year-old Cesar Felipe Jaramillo-Moreno of Goshen while he was headed east on County Road 600 S., just outside of Topeka, at a high rate of speed at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police tried using stop sticks to deflate his tires, and at one point, a LaGrange officer who apparently feared for his safety fired multiple shots at the van, which hit a fence and came to a stop.

Jaramillo-Moreno wasn’t hit by the gunfire and was taken into custody after officers had to use a taser.
