Suicide survivor candlelight ceremony scheduled for Thursday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County based STOP Suicide Northeast Indiana is holding a candlelight ceremony on Thursday.

The public is invited to join the group at 7 p.m. on the historic Wells Street Bridge for a suicide survivor candlelight ceremony. The event is part of National Suicide Prevention Week.

A survivor of suicide loss will share her thoughts. While she speaks, people attending will walk across the bridge as a commitment to life after suicide loss.

“Losing a loved one to suicide is a traumatic, heart wrenching experience,” according to Colleen Carpenter, Facilitator, STOP Suicide coalition. The loss is compounded by the stigma and shame in our society regarding suicide.”

Different organizations will distribute information about suicide loss, how to prevent future suicide and mental health during the event.
