GOSHEN, Ind. (WOWO): An experimental treatment is being credited with helping a Goshen woman’s fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

39-year-old Tiffani James tells the Journal Gazette she can feel the right side of her body for the first time in 10 years. She has been weaned herself off tremor medication, thanks to a special medical trial involving stem cell injections.

Unlike normal stem cell transplants, which use cells from another person, this therapy saw cells taken from James’ own neck and then reinjected after a round of chemotherapy. The hope is that the treatment will help her body’s immune system “reboot” and fight the MS off over the next couple of years.

For now, James feels well enough to try and fulfill her mother’s final wish: to spread her ashes on top of a mountain.
