FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein is responding to a vote of “no confidence” issued Friday by some faculty members in the wake of announced program cuts.

The cuts are part of a restructuring plan. The plan will eliminate women’s studies, geology and philosophy degree programs. It will also put other programs on hold.

School officials said budget cuts and dropping enrollment were the reasons for the restructure. But, that wasn’t good enough for opponents on the faculty, who accused Carwein of damaging campus morale and creating a “culture of fear.”

Carwein told the News-Sentinel the school has lost 30 percent of its enrollment since 2011, and that while the move seems a surprise to some, it’s been discussed “for four years.” She said that maybe more could have been done, but that college leadership has tried “very hard” to communicate with the campus.
