This was the second time in two years the proposal was brought to the City Council table.

This year, it was defeated in a 7-2 vote. Councilmen Jason Arp and Paul Ensley voted in favor of the ordinance.

Several city departments, including Animal Care & Control, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department and Neighborhood Code Enforcement, voiced complaints concerning the proposal including sanitation concerns with dogs and chicken coop issues.

Health Department Administrator Mindy Waldron also brought up health concerns including salmonella and avian flu.

Arp says he hopes to revisit the proposal again next year.
