One-car crash at Jefferson and Main leaves one dead, cause unknown

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Just a little after 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Fort Wayne Police Department received reports of an accident with injury at the intersection of W. Jefferson Blvd and W. Main St.

On arrival, officers located an SUV on the south side of the intersection. The vehicle had rolled over, and a man was pinned underneath.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was the only person in the vehicle.

Information indicates the SUV was eastbound on W. Jefferson Blvd, and something caused the SUV to leave the roadway as it approached W. Main St.

The SUV struck a utility pole on the south side of the roadway, then a parked vehicle, then rolled over. The man was ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath.

It is currently unknown what originally caused the SUV to leave the roadway.

The exact cause and manner of death, as well as the man’s identity, will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators are continuing to collect evidence. The intersection will remain closed until the investigation is complete.

Anyone at the scene of the crash will be interviewed by police, and nearby surveillance videos will be reviewed.
