FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne homeless shelter’s expansion has grown in more than one way.

The Rescue Mission is planning to build a $20.6-million, 325-bed facility at the corner of East Washington Blvd and Lafayette Street in downtown Fort Wayne, with construction set to start in early 2019.

But the News-Sentinel reports that price tag is actually now at around $23-million, as the Mission has announced plans to expand their women’s shelter, the Charis House, at the same time. The House has been turning away dozens of women and children a month due to overcrowding, so the Mission is adding 32 more beds.

A fundraising drive will most likely kick off in January.
