FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The opioid epidemic in Allen County is now giving way to a bigger problem: meth.

Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Commissioner Deborah McMahon told the City Council this week the problem has evolved from just an “opioid crisis” to an addiction crisis in general, where people are looking to get their hands on ANY drug, and methamphetamine is the most popular.

The Journal Gazette reports that changes made to prescription rules mean opioids are now being prescribed half as often by doctors, which means most are getting their drugs from a dealer now.

But the amount of meth seizures by police in Allen County has grown from 1,400 grams in 2016 to more than 2,500 this year.
