Area veteran gets highest honor in France

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Paul Ripley, a veteran from World War II, received the highest honor yesterday from France.

Ripley went to the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception where he received the Legion of Honor.  He had participated in the campaigns in northern France and central Europe and was a member of the quartermaster section of the 9th Army headquarters, according to our partners in news at ABC 21.

The Legion of Honor was founded in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.  The award is the highest award given out by France and is given to people who have done remarkable things for the country.
