Angola man behind bars after shooting at woman in car

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. – An Angola man is behind bars after shooting at a woman in her car in Steuben County on Saturday night.

Just after 6:30 p.m., Steuben County police responded to the intersection of CR 850 E and Metz Rd. in rural York Township for a reported shooting. The female victim contacted Steuben County Sheriff’s Communications stating that she had just been shot at while inside her vehicle.

When initial responding deputies arrived, they located the victim who as uninjured. The victim’s vehicle also appeared to have damage from the alleged gunshot. The woman was able to identify the shooter as 25-year-old Skylar Wilber.  During an initial interview, the victim indicated that Wilber had asked the victim for a ride and when she arrived at the residence, Wilber allegedly came outside upset and fired a handgun at the woman’s vehicle.

Just prior to the execution of a search warrant, a Wilber exited the residence and surrendered without incident just after 8 p.m.

Wilber was taken into custody and a search of the residence was conducted. The search of the property ultimately yielded suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and evidence indicating a firearm had been discharged.

Wilber, who’s charged with two misdemeanors and a felony, remains held in lieu of a $6,500 bond and the case still remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
