EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A federal appeals court has set a date to hear arguments in an Evansville church's appeal of a judge's decision blocking a planned display of 6-foot tall crosses at the city's public riverfront.
 
American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana attorney Gavin Rose tells the Evansville Courier & Press the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals scheduled a Feb. 18 hearing in Chicago.
 
A group of churches led by West Side Christian Church filed a notice of appeal in August, about a month after a federal judge in Indianapolis ruled the display would be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by the city. 
 
The churches had planned to place 31 decorated crosses along the Ohio River near downtown Evansville for about two weeks.
