FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man who police say shot at them last month was charged with attempted murder on Monday.

Police say when an officer pulled a car over near Hanna and Lewis streets on Jan. 30, 26-year-old Charles Benson ran from the car. The officer ran after him, then Benson reportedly started shooting at the officer.

Benson appeared in court Monday and was charged with attempted murder, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, according to online court records.

In 2014, Benson was charged in a murder case. The charges were dropped when a key witness in the case died after being hit by a train.
