YANKEETOWN, Ind. (AP) – Wildlife officials in southwestern Indiana are hopeful that a bald eagle with badly broken left leg will be able to survive in the wild.

Executive Director John Scott Foster of the Evansville-based Wesselman Nature Society tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1BLfSWb ) says people have seen the eagle eating road kill and one man reported seeing the eagle catch a fish in his pond and fly off. The injury had created some concern the raptor could starve.

Foster says he expects the eagle remain in the Yankeetown area of Warrick County about 15 miles southeast of Evansville.

Foster says that because the bird seems to be coping with its injury, there are no current plans to capture it for rehabilitation.
