Battle of the Badges Collects Hundreds of Blood and Platelet Units

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): You may remember we told you about the Battle of the Badges – a friendly competition between local police and firefighters to collect units of blood. Well, the results are in, and… The Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority are taking home the bragging rights. They narrowly overcame the Police and Sheriff’s team in the 19th annual battle with 400 votes to 327 votes. The purpose of the annual competition is to help build blood supplies during a typically lower giving period during the holidays-when people are busy and students are away from school.  The fun isn't over, though: From now until January 3rd, anyone who donates blood will get a free two-ounce brick of coffee and a coupon for a free pound of coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts.
