INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Low-income residents who receive food assistance might not be buying soda and candy bars if an amended Indiana bill becomes law. State representatives on Monday voted 69-22 in favor of the amendment, which would create standards for what is and is not considered nutritional for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Opponents say the bill mandates healthier choices without creating a safety net to teach proper nutrition.
