FERDINAND, Ind. (AP): Plans are moving ahead to open a microbrewery on the grounds of a southern Indiana monastery run by a community of Catholic nuns.
 
A zoning board in the Dubois County town of Ferdinand voted 4-0 this week to give permission for the brewery in a vacant art studio building on the grounds of Monastery Immaculate Conception.
 
The Herald of Jasper reports  brewer Vince Luecke told the board that plans are to have a tasting room and sell beer at the site. He says he and a partner also hope to sell their beer at local restaurants.
 
Sister Barbara Lynn Schmitz says she sees the microbrewery as an added attraction for the town about 40 miles northeast of Evansville.
 
Plans are to have the brewery operating by next spring.
