Burglary Suspect Arrested in Kosciusko County 12 Minutes After Crime

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):

A burglary suspect in Kosciusko County was taken into custody Wednesday…just 12 minutes after the crime.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Deputies were informed of a burglary Wednesday morning around 10:18 and were told that a suspect was running from the home on Old State Road 15 in Leesburg. A deputy found a vehicle matching the 911 description and pulled the vehicle over, then took the suspect, 43-year-old Mack Stokes, of Warsaw, into custody.

Detectives determined the owner of the home had originally been startled by a sound in the back of her house. She confronted Stokes inside and found he had broken out a window to get in. She got her son, who confronted Stokes as he walked back to the house from his vehicle with a claw hammer. The victim's son had gotten his handgun, and it was then that Stokes went back to his vehicle and left the property. Police say Stokes tried to run the man over in the driveway, at which point he fired his gun into the suspect's vehicle.

Stokes was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony burglary of a dwelling. It was later determined that he didn't have permission from the owner of the vehicle to be in possession of it. He's being held on a $6,000 bond and may face additional charges.
