FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): “What is the most urgent issue for the new president and congress to address in 2017?”

That is the question C-SPAN is asking middle school and high school students across the country. The C-SPAN Campaign 2016 bus made stops in Fort Wayne on Tuesday and students were asked that question.

The bus visited Blackhawk Middle School and South Side High School and students were able to tour the bus. The students also learned more about C-SPAN and how to utilize its website to learn more about the government.

“It’s (the bus) an interactive, multimedia, demonstration vehicle that travels all around the country,” C-SPAN Marketing Representative Vanessa Torres said. “Our mission is for the students to get involved in a resource where they are able to come to whenever they need it, check out the campaign season and really learn about C-SPAN.”

A junior at South Side High School, Chloe Kersey, had the opportunity to tour the bus.

“What I really hope to get out of this experience is really just understanding our governmental system better. Especially since — right now I’m 16 — and in the next presidential election I will be able to vote,” Kersey said.

C-SPAN has a documentary contest, StudentCam, that encourages students to critically analyze an issue. The 2017 question is, “What is the most urgent issue for the new president and congress to address in 2017?.”

The competition will officially launch Wednesday, Sept. 14.
