SHIRLEY, Ind. (AP) – Residents of a small central Indiana town hope the reopening of a museum in a renovated 1890s train depot will help keep the rural community's story alive.

The Shirley Historical Society reopened its museum in the depot this month after a four-year closure for repair work.

Society President Jerry Duke tells the (Greenfield) Daily Reporter (http://bit.ly/1J1IWSu ) it cost about $25,000 for the renovations, which included a concrete foundation, wooden floors and updates to a restroom.

Items on display include bottles from a former Shirley glass factory, high school band uniforms and dozens of black-and-white photographs of events from floods to community celebrations in the 800-person town about 30 miles east of Indianapolis.
