INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A courtroom in Indianapolis’ federal courthouse is being named after U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker, the first woman appointed to the federal court in Indiana.

Chief Judge Richard L. Young says Courtroom 215 at the Birch Bayh Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse will be named for her to honor her for more than 32 years of service. She has presided over the courtroom since she was appointed to the bench in 1984. An event is planned this fall when a plaque will be placed inside the courtroom and two smaller plaques at each of the courtroom entrances.

Barker has had numerous appointments and other duties in her three decades as a federal judge. She also has served as president of the Federal Judges Association.
