Downtown Fort Wayne Liquor Store Approved Despite Protest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A downtown Fort Wayne liquor store has been approved despite area residents speaking out against it.

The local Alcoholic Beverage Board approved a license for Belmont Beverage to open a liquor store at 929 Lafayette Street, which used to be a former Greyhound bus station. The four board members voted unanimously in favor of the license Monday morning despite the nearly three-dozen people that showed up to voice their protest.

Reverend Greg Enstrom told the Journal-Gazette that he and others didn't want the liquor store built there because of its proximity to downtown churches and schools. The store will be further than 200 feet from the nearest church or school, which is the minimum distance required by law.
