ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ Recreation vehicle officials say more than 25,000 RVs are sitting in lots in northern Indiana awaiting delivery because of a shortage of drivers to deliver them.
Recreation Vehicle Industry Association vice president Dianne Farrell estimates about 2,000 more drivers are needed. The Elkhart Truth reports reports Farrell says the problem is costing the industry financially.
RV transport company representatives met Tuesday at the RV-MH Hall of Fame to discuss the problem. The association is lobbying federal regulators to reduce the license requirements for drivers who haul some types of RVs and is working with a job search website to seek more drivers.
Former Elkhart Mayor Dave Miller is now president of CWRV Transport. He says dealers could help relieve the problem by treating drivers better.
