Eve Statue Stolen From Indiana University Found Near Campus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): A 300-pound solid bronze statue of Eve stolen from the Indiana University Arboretum has been found near campus.

University police Lt. W. Craig Munroe says a construction worker called police about 6:45 a.m. Friday to say he saw the statue on the ground while parking about a half-mile from campus. Munroe says the worker recognized the statue from the news.

University officials believe the statue was stolen during the Memorial Day weekend.

IU's curator of campus art Sherry Rouse says the statue was grassy and sandy. It appeared to have been sawed through at one ankle and broken at the other. Rouse says the statue will likely be repaired by a conservator.

Munroe says an investigation into the theft is continuing.
